TUPPER LAKE — Village police are asking for the public’s assistance in a search for a man responsible for an armed robbery at Ray’s Discount Liquor & Wine store Friday morning.

Police say the man entered the store at 9:45 a.m., wielding a knife and threatening Mary Chapman, 90, who owns the store. He held the knife to her back as she led him around the store, where he was captured on security cameras.

“She’s OK; she’s just really shook up,” Chapman’s daughter Tina Bradley said.

He fled on foot in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and the bank box.

Bradley said he seemed to know there were cameras in the front of the store, but was unaware of ones in the back.

Bradley said there have been break-ins at the store through the front and back doors and the front window, but always at night and never with a weapon.

The man was wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, red work gloves, a black New York Yankees ball cap and thick glasses.

Police described the suspect as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, with a slender build, weighing approximately 175 pounds

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tupper Lake Police Department at 518-483-1219.
