Boil order lifted in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — A boil order placed over part of this village after a water main break last week has been lifted.

After a water line running parallel with Lake Flower Avenue burst at the culvert between McKenzie’s Grille and the Sara-Placid Inn and Suites Wednesday morning, the village Department of Public Works was able to patch the leak by midnight. Because water pressure was low for so long, the DPW advised residents of the southeastern side of Saranac Lake to not ingest the tap water without boiling first.

Under a boil-water advisory, water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute to kill protozoa, bacteria and viruses before it is consumed or used to brush teeth or wash dishes.

“[Residents] are free to do whatever they want,” DPW Superintendent Jeff Dora said after lifting the boil order.
