Boil order follows water main break in Saranac Lake
SARANAC LAKE — A boil-water order was issued Wednesday for the southeastern corner of this village due to a nasty water main break on Lake Flower Avenue.
Dora announced a boil water order for the following areas: Lake Flower Avenue from Center Street to the village line, Merrill Street, Colony Court, Turtle Pond Road, Crossfield Avenue, Duprey Street, Edward Street, Cortez Lane, Poplar Lane, Tara Drive and Will Rogers Drive.
Under a boil-water advisory, water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute to kill protozoa, bacteria and viruses before it is consumed or used to brush teeth or wash dishes.
The water main broke between the Sara-Placid and the Best Western hotels Wednesday morning, and the village Department of Public Works still hadn’t been able to fix it by that evening.
“It’s 7 o’clock, and I’m still out on Lake Flower [Avenue]. What does that tell you?” DPW Superintendent Jeff Dora said. We’re down to the pipe, and hopefully we can make the repair shortly.
“It’s in a bad spot,” he added. “We’ve already had two previous problems in the same general vicinity.”
Sandy soil made the job harder since it kept caving in as crews dug, Dora said. Then water from Lake Flower started flowing into the hole.
“We could still be a couple more hours,” Dora said.
Meanwhile, the DPW was also called out to a second water line break on Dewey Lane, off Lake Street.
“Not a fun day,” Dora said.
