Phone service returning to AuSable area after Friday wind storm

Land-line phone service is slowly returning to the AuSable River valley on the fifth day since a wind storm brought trees down onto utility lines Friday night.

The Frontier utility company got phone service working again for the entire AuSable Valley Central School District Wednesday, technology coordinator Dean Lincoln said via high school secretary Pam Rushia around noon. On Wednesday morning the district had posted a set of alternate phone numbers on its website, saying it had converted fax lines into phone lines as a temporary work-around.

Now, however, the schools’ normal phone lines are working again.

The wind storm left more than 10,000 homes and businesses without electricity, which was finally restored for all but a handful by Monday. Some areas’ internet and phone services took a little longer to return.
