TUPPER LAKE — The Knights of Columbus’ 20th annual auction and flea market has everything, including the kitchen sink.

The Catholic men’s organization will be raising money for several causes at the event this Sunday, this year giving much of the proceeds toward the Rotary Club’s Little League field that is to be built at the municipal park.

At the flea market, held in the parish gym, cups, books, tools and toys can be bought for nickles, dimes and quarters. The auction items are a bit bigger. Refrigerators, table saws, side tables and dozens of chairs sit in the front of the gym, waiting to be given to a new home by auctioneer Jon Kopp.

Mark Moeller, the auction coordinator, said many of these items are used to furnish camps, new homes and dorm rooms.

There are also less utilitarian items: board games, kids kitchen sets and a black and white photo of a dozen or so Tupper Lake boys from the 1930s, one of whom is showing the camera “the bird.”

Over the past week, members of the Knights have been collecting dropped off items under a tent outside the parish and driving around to pick up items. Not everything they get is in good shape, so on Thursday the Knights were gluing mirrors, marble countertops and wooden mantles back together again.

Three raffles held during the auction will give away a grill from Fortunes Hardware, a pair of Adirondack chairs built by Bob “Popcorn” Duhaime and cash.

The auction will also include gift cards, coupons and service vouchers from almost 100 businesses.

The market and auction will fund a $500 scholarship for a Tupper Lake senior, a youth trip to Camp Guggenheim on Lower Saranac Lake and maintenance on the KoC hall on High Street. Unlike other organizations, the Knights pay taxes and utilities on their meeting hall, and rely on events like this to maintain the popular event space.

The money raised this year will go toward paying for the roof repairs done earlier this year.

What isn’t sold during the day is given away to the Thrifty and Nifty shop on Demars Boulevard.

Moeller said the parish youth group will hold a bake sale, and hot dogs and drinks will be sold at the gym concession stand and the Knights plan to run a fun and affordable event all day long.
