SARANAC LAKE — The Dewey Mountain Friends will commemorate a trail to former Harrietstown Councilor Ron Keough, a longtime proponent for Dewey Mountain.

The public is invited to attend the trail dedication ceremony Thursday, March 8, at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center at approximately 5:15 p.m. immediately following Youth Ski League practice.

DMF Chairman Scott Stoddard described Keough as one of the mountain’s greatest supporters.

“We’re beginning to realize his vision of turning Dewey into a premiere year-round recreational facility,” Stoddard said. “From his advocacy to establish a cross-country ski area in 1978 to his tireless support for building the new base lodge and the new expanded parking area, he’s been there every step of the way.”

The new trail opened for the 2017-18 ski season and was constructed with support from DMF on new land purchased by the town of Harrietstown last year. It is accessible and perfect for beginner cross country skiers.
