Nursing home employee charged with identity theft

LAKE PLACID — A nursing home employee allegedly stole the debit card of one of the home’s residents and then made multiple purchases and forged signatures.

State police charged Stacie L. Collette, 46, of Lake Placid with forgery in the second degree and identity theft in the third degree, both felonies, as well as petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on Friday, Dec. 15.

Collette allegedly stole the debit card of an 86-year-old female resident of the Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Place nursing home at 185 Old Military Road.

Collette reportedly used the card in the months of June and July this year, purchasing more than $500 worth of goods from local stores and forging the victim’s name on the receipts.

Police said the nursing home resident reported the unauthorized charges on her credit card on Aug. 5.

Collette was arraigned in North Elba town court and released under the supervision of Essex County Probation.
