DEC says High Peaks Wilderness is mostly skiable
LAKE PLACID — The state Department of Environmental Conservation said in its weekly High Peaks Conditions Report that Avalanche Lake and Lake Colden are both now crossable, with enough ice to support skiers and snowshoers.
The DEC says the Lake Colden caretaker is reporting 30 inches of snow at the lake and 3 to 4 feet in higher elevations. The department also says South Meadow Lane and the Marcy Dam truck trail are in good condition for skiing, as is the Avalanche and other trails, but snowshoes are needed beyond Marcy Dam.
