SARANAC LAKE — A tractor-trailer driver headed toward Tupper Lake on state Route 3 careened off the side of the road and turned over Tuesday morning, state police said, closing the highway for several hours.

The operator of the vehicle was Christopher Mulready, 64, of Fair Haven, Vermont, who was uninjured in the crash, police said.

State police are currently investigating the incident.

The highway reopened to traffic around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

A trace amount of diesel fuel leaked from the truck. David Winchell, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Conservation, said “a DEC Spills Response staff inspected the saddle tanks and the area around the accident. Initial observations indicate only a very small, immeasurable amount of diesel fuel leaked from around the fuel tank cap. No efforts to contain and collect the leaked fuel were necessary.”
