SARANAC LAKE — Newman & Holmes was named Business of the Year, and Jason Smith walked away with the Citizen of the Year award at Tuesday’s Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, held at the Porcupine Inn on Park Avenue.

Wayne Newman accepted the Business of the Year award for his paint, glass and flooring business on Church Street, which closed last month after more than 80 years of operations. Newman, who is retiring, ran the business since 1970.

Smith owns and operates Adirondack Lakes and Trails Outfitters and is the manager of Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, which is owned by the town of Harrietstown. He led a volunteer effort to help shovel snow onto the course for the February World Snowshoe Championships after the event was moved entirely to Dewey Mountain at the last minute due to warm weather and a lack of snow.
