Half of Placid Main Street loses power for almost an hour

LAKE PLACID — Approximately half of this village’s Main street, the northern portion, was without power during dinner time last night for a period between a half hour and hour, firefighters said this morning.

Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall said he and the village’s new Electric Superintendent Kimball Daby believe it was the torrential rains that shorted the system.

“(We believe) it had to do with one of the circuits that feeds Main Street feeds in under the lake,” Randall said. “We believe it was probably caused by the extreme weather last night.”

The outage also set off a fire alarm at NBT Bank at 2483 Main Street. The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department sent one truck and 12 members to the scene where no action was required and they were back in service at 7:10 p.m.
