ARIETTA (AP) — New York environmental officials have extended the public comment period for proposed changes to three state campgrounds on Piseco Lake in the southeastern Adirondacks.

The new management plan for Poplar Point, Little Sand Point and Point Comfort campgrounds calls for closing Poplar Point and turning it into a free day-use and boat launch area, although other options are on the table as well.

All three campgrounds are on the shore of Piseco Lake along County Route 24 in the Hamilton County town of Arietta.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public meeting on the proposed plan on June 14 at the Arietta Town Hall.

The agency says it wants to close Poplar Point to camping because of limited attendance, staffing and resources.
