Cuomo tells NY: Visit Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — In a press release Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo encouraged New Yorkers to visit Lake Placid this summer.

Cuomo said the “historic Winter Olympic destination” features “endless” opportunities for summer outdoor recreation.

“The North Country is home to world-class attractions and features activities and destinations for visitors of all ages during every season of the year,” Cuomo said. “Lake Placid has so much to offer, and I encourage New Yorkers and visitors alike to visit this gem of the Adirondacks this summer.”

Cuomo’s press release specifically mentioned this weekend’s Wilmington Whiteface 100K mountain bike race and the Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race. He also highlighted that next weekend, 1,200 runners will take part in the 13th annual Lake Placid Marathon and Half-Marathon.

He also mentioned the following events taking place in Lake Placid this summer:

¯ Lake Placid Summer Figure Skating Championships, June 28 to July 2

¯ Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows, June 27 to July 9

¯ Whiteface Sky Race Marathon, July 9

¯ Ironman Lake Placid, July 23

¯ Lake Placid Ice Dance Championship, July 26 to 29

¯ USA Hockey Women’s Festival, Aug. 6 to 14

¯ Ironman 70.3, Sept. 10

Cuomo also mentioned that state Olympic Regional Development Authority attractions such as the Lake Placid Bobsled Experience, Discover Biathlon and the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway will be open to the public this summer.
