DEC offering ‘trail supporter’ patch

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is offering a newly-designed “trail supporter” patch for sale starting March 1.

The patch, which costs $5, is designed to look like a blue DEC trail marker. This is the first of three colors that will be offered.

The patches can be purchased anywhere a hunting or fishing license is sold. It can also be purchased on the DEC’s license website at www.decals.dec.ny.gov/DECALSCitizenWeb/citizenhome.htm.

All proceeds from the sale of patches will be put into the Conservation Fund’s Outdoor Recreation, Trail Maintenance and Development account to be used to maintain and improve non-motorized recreation trails throughout the state.

The patch was first introduced in 2007 and has since raised more than $21,000. Some of that money has been used to build bridges on the Finger Lakes trail and Northville-Placid trail among other projects.
