DEC holds Debar Mountain Wild Forest meetings
The state Department of Environmental Conservation will host two public meetings on its review of the Debar Mountain Wild Forest Unit Management Plan.
The wild forest unit is made up of about 40 land parcels and contains almost 90,000 acres in the towns of Brighton, Duane, Franklin, Santa Clara and Waverly in Franklin County.
Meetings will be held today in Duane and on March 1 in Vermontville. Both will begin at 6 p.m.
Tonight’s meeting will be at the Duane firehouse, 172 County Route 26, Malone (Duane), approximately 0.8 mile from state Route 30.
The second meeting will be at the town of Franklin Town Hall, 8170 state Route 3, Vermontville, at the intersection with Cold Brook Road.
DEC staff will be on hand to answer questions and listen to suggestions on the management of the wild forest. The meetings are part of DEC’s plan to update the UMP. Once a UMP is created, the public will have another opportunity to comment on the plan.
Public comments may also be submitted to Robert Daley by mail at NYSDEC, P.O. Box 296, Ray Brook, NY 12977; by telephone at 518-897-1369; or by email at r5.ump@dec.ny.gov.
