Colby Classic gears up for this weekend with 13 inches of ice
SARANAC LAKE — The Colby Classic Ice Fishing Derby is set to take the ice Saturday and Sunday on Lake Colby.
The contest is for fish caught between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. with no fish weighed in later than 4:15 p.m. each day.
The cost to participate is $7 per day or $10 for both days for adults. For children under 16 years of age, it costs $3 per day or $5 for both days.
Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest fish in each category. A $100 prize will be awarded for any of the 15 tagged fish stocked in the lake Monday morning. The fish must have this year’s numbers and are not eligible for any other category of prizes. Only one prize will be awarded per person per category.
All perch, trout and salmon must be taken from Lake Colby. Northern pike may be fished in other local waters as they are not available in Lake Colby.
Colby Classic Chairman Dustin Martin said Monday morning that the ice on Lake Colby was 13 inches thick, but he advised fishers not to drive pickup trucks or cars onto it.
