Contractors sought for downtown Saranac Lake building renovations

SARANAC LAKE — Downtown property owners are seeking contractors to fund their facade upgrades.

The Saranac Lake Local Development Corporation says a series of projects have been awarded partial funding through the New York Main Street program, but property owners are having a hard time finding contractors. Two qualified contractor bids are required for each project.

“The projects have been approved for construction by the New York Main Street program and the State Historic Preservation Office,” LDC Chairman Paul Van Cott wrote in an email. “All that remains is for the property owners to obtain at least two bids on defined scopes of work, for the property owners to select a contractor, and for building permits to be obtained from the village.”

The LDC’s goal is to help the property owners find contractors and get the work done this spring, prior to the summer season and the planned re-opening of the Hotel Saranac, Van Cott said.

Contractors interested in renovation work in downtown Saranac Lake may contact Johnny Muldowney at the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at johnny@saranaclake.com or 518-891-1990.
