SARANAC LAKE — A village Department of Public Works employee was banged up but not seriously injured after crashing a village sidewalk plow Friday morning.

Alex Donaldson was driving on the side of the road down Pine Street hill, near the intersection with Stevenson Lane, around 10:30 a.m. when the sidewalk plow started to fishtail, according to village DPW Superintendent Jeff Dora.

Dora said Donaldson lost control of the top-heavy plow, which rolled onto its side, coming to rest in the middle of the Pine Street bridge.

Donaldson suffered a “bump on the head,” Dora said, and was taken by a Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad ambulance to be checked out at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Village crews brought in a loader with a boom attachment and chains, which they used to get the plow upright again. Dora said he wasn’t sure yet how long it could be out of commission.

Pine Street was closed to traffic between Bloomingdale Avenue and Main Street until the vehicle was removed.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 10:34 a.m. with one truck and two members. Firefighters provided traffic control and assisted ambulance personnel.
