TUPPER LAKE — Not much has changed in the organization of the village of Tupper Lake since last year, with the exception of a new board member being sworn in.

Clint Hollingsworth took his place as a member of the village board at Thursday’s annual organizational meeting, succeeding Thomas Snyder, whose term expired.

He was also appointed to oversee the electrical department for the 2016-17 official year, a role also previously held by Snyder.

“I am looking forward to serving on the board,” Hollingsworth said. “I’m glad to work with you guys and I think we can accomplish some good things.”

David “Haji” Maroun, who is serving his third term as trustee on the board, also took an oath and got sworn in.

“First, I would like to welcome Clint to the board,” Mayor Paul Maroun said. “I look forward to working with you. We work very well together. We have open discussions and we really work for the best interest of the community.

“I also want to take this time to thank our former trustee Tom Snyder, who spent eight years on the board. He was a guy you could always go to, he handled the electric department and we listened to his wisdom on the department. He knew it well and we’re going to miss him on the board. We wish him best of luck in the future.”

The board reappointed Trustee Leon LeBlanc to be deputy mayor and oversee the village office and department of public works, Trustee Ron LaScala to oversee the water-sewer departments and David “Haji” Maroun to oversee the fire and park departments. The board also reappointed mayor Maroun to oversee the police department, Mary Casagrain as village clerk, treasurer and records access officer; Kyle Fuller as deputy village clerk; and Jacqueline St. Louis as deputy village treasurer.

In addition, Nathan Race was appointed as village attorney, Leonard Young as acting police justice, Ronald Simmons as public health officer, Jon Kopp as village historian, and Laurie Fuller as registrar of vital statistics.

The board also approved keeping its meetings on the third Wednesday of each month, although the trustees decided to move the next meeting to 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 from Dec. 21, as members will be traveling for holidays.

The trustees approved designating Dec. 1 or the first Monday in December as the organizational meeting and re-designating Paul O’Leary as the official for assessment and property tax roll items.

The board also approved naming Community Bank as the official depository of and for all funds and designated the Tupper Lake Free Press as its official newspaper, resolving to use the Adirondack Daily Enterprise if a timely need for publishing exists.

The members approved changing their mileage reimbursement rate to 0.54 from 0.45 per mile, Casagrain said.

The board made one motion to cover all the actions on the agenda with Hollingsworth making the first motion of the year as the newest trustee.
