Author’s land donated to New York state

ALBANY (AP) – “Woodswoman” author Anne LaBastille’s 32-acre parcel on Twitchell Lake in the western Adirondacks has been donated to New York state to be protected as part of the Forest Preserve.

The writer and conservationist, who died in 2011, dedicated her life to conserving wildlife and wild lands. Her autobiographical “Woodswoman” in 1978 chronicled her journey from an urban New Jersey girl to her solitary life on the remote lake where she built a simple log cabin.

The cabin has been donated to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. It was dismantled and transported there last winter and will be part of a new exhibit opening at the museum in 2017.
